I loved reading as a child. My parents told me I was a good reader and writer. I believed what they told me. Although I was a dreamer and thinker, I chose to attend law school. Reading and writing skills were a big help there. Then I entered the conflict-filled world of “lawyerdom.” Years of grinding, exhausting work as a lawyer began to kill my soul, although my commitment to help those in need remained intact. I started dreaming about other things again, especially of being a writer. After a few years of doing nothing more than thinking about writing, I picked up my pen.
My first book, Alcoholprism, wrote itself. To be sure, I was there. I participated in the effort. Yet, the ideas and the poems popped into my mind and danced around. I quickly learned to write them down immediately before they danced away.
My second book is Hope Lines. The things I have seen and felt in twenty-three years of parenting and twenty-one years of lawyering are beautiful and sad, impressive and disturbing. I have written down the disturbing trends emerging in the lives of young adults. I have also written of the fear and loss of spirituality that have made people grab for fixes which are not fixes at all. I continue to practice law and use spiritual tools to help my clients. Hope Lines is available now and can be purchased on Amazon here.
